Danish guitarist Jakob Bro returns to Village Vanguard in July 2022 with his two soulmates and world-class players, bassist Thomas Morgan & drummer Joey Baron. This poetically attuned group, whose collective sound The New York Times has called “ravishing”, presents nuanced improvisational music of an intimate, elastic, and often mesmerizing character.
Following two great ECM albums produced by Manfred Eicher, “Streams” and “Bay of Rainbows”, which earned Jakob Bro a win at the Downbeat Critics Poll in the Rising Star–Guitar category, this trio is back in New York this summer for a weeklong residency at the legendary institution in American jazz, Village Vanguard.

Downbeat: ”Danish guitarist Jakob Bro creates magical music, impossible to categorize or capture. His songs are best described as jewels revolving in mid-air, reflecting and refracting light”
New York Times: “Danish guitarist with a patient and lyrical style, Jakob Bro convenes the best possible partners for his ravishing album Streams: the bassist Thomas Morgan, with whom he has a powerfully intuitive bond, and Joey Baron, a drummer who brings a welcome surface static without disrupting the larger flow.”
JazzTrail: “The collective does miracles as it distinctively shapes idle, hypnotizing, nocturnal, and intellectual streams of pacific nature.”
JazzTimes: “Bro’s compositions are panoramic, with tones at once sedate and ever shifting. His skillful echo and reverb weave a thrumming surface, upon which the musicians evince a delicate chemistry.”
Politiken: “Jakob Bro’s music is like falling leaves and subtle footsteps. Simply pure beauty.”
Lee Konitz: “Small melodies. I can’t believe he can get away with it.”
