We are happy to announce Wadada Leo Smith, Midori Takada and Joe Lovano for the line-up, which also includes the live premiere of Maria Laurette Friis & Thomas Morgan ‘Colors’, one of only three European concerts with Jakob Bro, Wadada Leo Smith, Marcus Gilmore ‘Murasaki’, a new trio with Midori Takada, and a large group finale with Hanne De Backer, Jesper Zeuthen etc. based on ‘New Morning’

“Loveland is the festival I would like to attend and have missed in autumn. It’s a gathering—where artists come together, and it also becomes a meeting point with some of my own greatest musical heroes from Japan, USA, Europe, and Denmark. Wadada Leo Smith and Joe Lovano have shaped improvised music over five decades. Midori Takada was a rebel in classical music, especially in Japan, and like Thomas Morgan and Marcus Gilmore, she possesses a special musicality, even when performing solo. I know many drummers are excited to see Marcus and Joey Baron perform, and anyone who loves Japanese music will be looking forward to Midori Takada with all the magic she brings. The international icons performing at the festival will play live with other incredible musicians, some of whom you might know from completely different contexts, within the Danish music scene. It requires openness and generosity, and above all, I believe it will be an incredibly beautiful and fascinating experience,” says Jakob Bro.

“The idea of coming together in different constellations, being thrown into deep waters, is my attempt to create something different from a “tour.” Something that makes this unique and interesting for both musicians and the audience—this moment will only happen once, and we don’t yet know where it will take us. In fact, we’ve deliberately kept some details open, so something more than what’s been announced will definitely unfold. For me, the essence of this festival is that it’s live and only in Copenhagen—and once it’s gone, it’s gone. That’s the chance you take with this kind of art form. And it is also a human conversation through music – regardless of cultural background, which generation and what language you know, what struggles one has been through, or which school one went to.

Something beautiful happens right there, when everything is in the air, and it carries a poetry and a sound, colored by the contributions of everyone involved.”
