From the first concert in Denmark since the release of their first collaborative album Strands (ECM, 2023), three generations of Danish Jazz come together at Brorson’s Church for an intimate version of Jakob Bro’s Oktober. The song was originally composed for the Returnings album (ECM, 2018) and here reinterpreted in the cruciform church with the square-shaped central tower, which gives a spectacular sound when performing in the center of the church. In recent years Brorson’s has gained attention for its musical profile with Nordic improvised music as well as and spiritual music, and because Palle Mikkelborg and Jakob Bro have been performing recurringly in church settings for a decade now, at this time it felt natural to encapsulate that on film. Cinematographer Adam Jandrup & director Andreas Koefoed continue their collaboration from the music feature film “Music For Black Pigeons”, which premiered at the 79th Biennale in Venice, on this live session from Copenhagen.
